When I first opened my eyes as a youngster in Istanbul, I found myself in a rug shop. Rugs became my best friends. Since childhood I dreamed I could do the job in a more professional and international manner. During those early years my Dad’s name, as a rug dealer, was well known in the wholesale rug market of Anatolia. I still wanted to develop this trade even more although i was studying Italian lang. and literature :).
After i finished my university education, i was introduced to various rug dealers, masters and weavers all around Anatolia. I travelled the country and worked hard to learn every types of rugs, kilims, soumaks and weaving technics at the heart of the rug market. I went into the interior of Anatolia to Konya, to Cappadocia, to isparta and to east Anatolia. I learned in these places why some rugs were good while the others were not so respected. What are the facts that determine the quality. I have learned these facts also passing my free time with my grandfather and my dad in a master-apprentice working relationship.
My Grandfather and my dad worked with rugs not only a business interest also with a great passion but they didn't have the facility to introduce their passion to the world. In my opinion we were lacking in the retail marketing field of genuine traditional Turkish rugs and kilims. When my foreign friends, during my university education, have asked me ‘’Why don’t you introduce your rugs to the retail marketing world ?’’ For me this was the question that changed my life. We must introduce our own passion in other words Turkish rugs to all around the world. We must collect traditional handmade carpets but the real ones with their own history behind them. We must use our old family network in Anatolia and thereby this dream has become a reality. Now we find, buy, make them wash and restorate them (if they need) and introduce them to all around the world.
